I saw Dr Krol-Shaffie for a nutropathic consultation earlier this year, and cannot praise it highly enough. I decided to book onto her programme as I had been suffering with a prolonged period of stomach problems, lethargy and poor sleep, which had started after catching Covid in 2021. I was also becoming increasingly concerned about menopause-related weight gain.
I didn’t know what to expect, as I had never had a consultation of this type before, and was a little apprehensive when I arrived. However, I really did not need to be – as Dr Krol-Shaffie put me at my ease straight away. She was really kind and very attentive. The consultation began with asking me lots of questions – about my diet, my sleep, exercise, and my life in general. After about 20 minutes of discussion, Dr Krol provided me with a really clear eating plan – I don’t want to call it a diet, as it didn’t feel that restrictive. With the plan came some brilliant advice including portion size, eating as many colours of the rainbow as possible, and also timing of meals. Dr Krol-Shaffie then talked to me about supplements, taking time to explain what she was prescribing, and why. There was plenty of time to ask questions and, Dr Krol-Shaffie was very attentive, and keen to check that I understood the plan, before I left.
I followed the plan for a month, as agreed, and I can honestly say that I didn’t find it difficult at all. I liked that I had a plan that made sense, fitted into my hectic lifestyle, and was easy to follow. Key aspects included always eating breakfast, cutting out all processed sugar (and limiting natural sugar, such as fruit), drinking plenty of water, taking my supplements and not eating after 6pm. I can honestly say that I was never hungry….and the weight started falling off – which was amazing – as nothing else that I had recently tried had worked!
By the time of my follow up consultation, I had lost over half a stone, was sleeping better, and some of my other symptoms had also started to reduce. I felt like a new woman! At the follow up, Dr Krol-Shaffie asked me how I had got on, wanted to understand whether I had found anything too difficult, and made a few small adjustments to my supplements.
I continued to follow the plan for about 3 months, but then, for some reason, fell back into my old ways, and the weight began to go on again. However, I was able to realise the error of my ways, and rather than getting depressed and turning to fad diets / fasting, I took out my consultation notes, and started to follow Dr KS’s programme again. And after 5 weeks, I have lost 8 pounds, and feel great again. And now I hope to follow the programme permanently – as I feel so much better when I take control, and follow the advice I have been given – my sleep improves, my anxiety reduces, and I can fit into my favourite clothes again!
